After the success of the first Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course for members at the end of November we have added another session to the diary.
This is a one day first aid course arranged by the Ystradgynlais and District Chamber of Trade and Tourism and delivered by Winterhawk Training. This fully accredited course will qualify basic First Aiders at work and give them the confidence to deal with lots of common issues. The course covers:
- Roles and Responsibilities: Understanding the role of a first aider, preventing cross-infection, and record-keeping (accident reporting/RIDDOR).
- Incident Management: Assessing the scene, conducting a primary survey (DR ABC), and summoning help.
- Unresponsive Casualty: Managing a casualty who is unconscious, breathing, and not breathing.
- CPR and AED: Adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- Choking: Administering first aid to a choking adult.
- Bleeding and Shock: Managing severe external bleeding, shock, and minor injuries (cuts, bruises, splinters).
- Minor Injuries: Treating burns, scalds, and small wounds.
- Medical Conditions: Basic management of seizures.
The course runs on a Sunday to try an minimse the impact on working time.
